This creation changes every hour in a 24-hour cycle. It depicts the building and burying of a structure. The creature rebuilds the dome every day, and each day it is reclaimed by the sands. The work portrays the inherent meaninglessness of our toil, which eventually passes with time. It poses the question: knowing this, why do we continue to build what we build?
The creature was crafted from pipe cleaners, felt, yarn, clothes pins, and a large bead. It was photographed in the physical world in front of a green screen and inserted into a virtual environment. This environment, including the house, props, and lighting, were rendered in real-time out of a game engine. The process combines physical and digital worlds as a reflection of our own way of existing in both spaces.
“What has been will be again, what has been done will be done again. There is nothing new under the sun.”
