Of Masks and Memories
We are made of memories, and with time, as our memories change, we change.
When one think of 'memories', most people think of recordings, stored somehow, ready to be played back at any time, but they are so much more. They are states of mind caused by experience that are in constant flux, and which transform us. Neither our memories, nor how we feel about them, are static. They change over time and cause a process of unending transformation through which we are constantly creating and destroying ourselves.
Through all this, there are countless possible "selves" behind a mask, and the mask is the self that, finally, is presented to the world. Sometimes it is easy to forget that the mask is not who we are... Our "true self" is actually those multiple selves whom we sometimes hide, sometimes briefly reveal, sometimes try to forget...
